Time For Another Dancing Bird

By now you might have caught on that I have a thing for Cockatoos. They are always great for a laugh. This one is dancing to Britney Spears. Even if you don't like her music, this is so cute. I have never seen a bird want to fluff ALL of his feathers for so long. Too cute! I love snuggling feathers=} (I know I'm not the only one.) I like to refer to it as "snuffing some fluff".

Here is a special feathered greeting from Tucson, Arizona from all of us who feel like we have been running around like crazy because life is so busy. I am fortunate enough to get the unexpected pleasure of a Roadrunner crossing the road on random occasions. I get so excited and laugh everytime. What a great little cure for stress! When I've traveled to other parts of the country/world, many people just thought the Roadrunner was a fictional cartoon character. So I thought that was another good reason to post these long-tailed beauties. They are characters, but they are all real =}

Fun memory: I grew up in Sierra Vista, Az a little over an hour south of Tucson. We had a pool in the backyard that was safe access for a one-legged roadrunner who had "moved in". He was so adorable. I remember him jumping up on the dining room windowsill when were eating. He startled me so bad one time that I fell out of my chair...he, he, he. Sneaky bugger! =}

I just love this little Cockatoo headbanger! He is so cute rockin' it out. Someday when I can manage to get one when I have the time and space, I really want a cockatoo. They are so beautiful! But then again, I notice that I am attracted to any animal that has something extra going on top of his head. Chickens, ducks, angorra rabbits, hairy guinnea pigs, even miniature donkeys have wild hair. Maybe there is a "funny farm" in my future. Hahaha ;-)

I really want to have some Polish chickens, too. We had one when I was little. They are just too cute.

Part of the Flock

Unfortunately I have been very sick these past couple of weeks. So I haven't been able to keep up with all my blogging and "computer stuff" that seems to occupy a bunch of my time building my Internet business. But the funnest thing happened to me when I was having a bad day just before I sick. aka...a bunch of bad days!

At sunset I was turning into the country club where I go to take care of an elderly women, when a large flock of chickadees uniformly took off from one green side of the road diagonally across to the other side where there is a small pond a ways down. My car was going about 15 miles an hour. A speed that suited the birds just fine, because they flew "with" me. Surrounding me and gradually rolling over the car to give the continuous wave of birds a chance to fly with the Big Bird! This went on the whole way down the road!

The big emotional baby I can sometimes be over birds, critters and nature; I started to cry. For me this was one of the beautiful special moments in life. Even though I cried a few tears, it cheered me up tremendously on a day that had been a bad day.

Just another reason to add to the many reasons of why I love birds so much. I always wished I could be a bird and fly freely like they do. On that day I consider I have done just that.

This is one of my favorite feathered hair clips that I made. I love the rich peacock colors. It is the only feather pad that I had like this because it cost a bit more than the usual feather pads that I sell. These are the more rare feathers collected off of chest of peacock. The colors vary with different angles and lighting. Are you ready for all the parties? What if get invited to a masquerade party, but don't have a lot of time to prepare?

There are so many fun ideas for masks, especially with feathers. Buy one premade or make one up yourself! If you click on one of my Ostrich.com affiliate links you will find a section that has premade masks for sale. If you are looking to make your own they have TONS of gorgeous feathers dyed in dozens of colors. So go check it out.

And don't forget the Feather Pads. They sell feathers already glued down onto a lightweight fabric backing that can be cut and trimmed for your own designs. These also work well for mask making. The other plus to having a mask or two is that they make pretty decoration to your interior design when they aren't being used as mask! Take a look at my Artfire.com store Gypsy G Designs. I also sell some feathers there for small projects and I always try to ship them out quickly.

I love all the feathers all the feathers in Miley Cyrus new video, "Can't Be Tamed". Part of the video she is a Peacock, but most of it she is all black like a Raven. Both are beautiful. The Raven costume has more "wearable" ideas that could be implemented in your wardrobe accessories. Feathers are becoming more and more popular to wear. Go crazy with ideas on adding fashionable feathers to clothes, jewelry and costumes. Anyone have ideas to share? Fluff at Home

Here are a few great decorating ideas to add a little "fluff" to your home. I love the fact that feathers come strung on a thin strip of ribbon. This makes it easy to add to any sewing project where you would use any other trim or fringe. Hackle feathers come dyed in many colors like in this pillow design. The feathers add a lot of impact and drama to what would be an ordinary pillow.

Here is a decorating tip that does double duty. Make a feather necklace for you and your lampshade to share! It can be as simple as hot gluing a few feathers of your choice to a silky ribbon. Wear it for your special occasion and then use it to jazz up any old lampshade. Sure to be a conversation starter at home and at the party. Dress it up even more by adding jewelry to it. Do have that one earring you love but can't find the other half? Clip off the post and glue on the earring as a centerpiece to your feathers. Or collect your favorite trinkets from the craft store. Let your imagination soar on this one.
This last idea is the simplest of all. Dress up a candlestick with your favorite feather boa. Just clip off the length you need and glue thin little strips of ribbon on each end. This allows you to discretely tie the feathers around the candlestick, yet still be able to remove it easily. Feather boas have many style options with various different feather choices, colors, thickness, and lengths. The more plush the boa the more expensive. But this could be a very inexpensive decorating touch with a regular-sized boa. The left-over boa could be hung on the wall as a garland highlighting a piece of artwork. Again, the options are endless to personalize your space. A space that makes you feel warm, comfortable, and always brings a smile to you face.

Fluffy Handbag

I love this adorable handbag embellished with lavender ostrich feathers. There are a few ways of adding feathers to your plain jane handbag. This one here is made with a feather boa. The boa is more condusive to hand sewing onto a fabric bag. You don't have to do a steady stitch spread out is ok. They also make feather fringe that is sewn to a strip of ribbon. This can also be sewn on, but works well being glued on, too. This is handy for non-sewers.

Here is an example some feathered fringe with ostrich feathers. These come in different lengths depending on the look you are going for and the size of your project. If your purse is larger, just run several rows.

Here is an example of a 4-ply curly ostrich boa. This is a fancier more expensive boa. It is filled out nicely and covers a wider area.

Hello and welcome to The Feather Factory blog. I am brand new and just getting started, so it is taking me some time to get writing. I have been having fun reading a couple blogs that family has recently shared with me. It is, of course, a busy time with the holidays as well.
